Happy September! The cool nights and warm days are a refreshing change from the intense summer heat!
With the slight change in temperature and available sunlight, now is the time to think about and plant your bulbs if you hoping for an early spring explosion of blooms and colour. A little bit of gardening in September or October can bring an ear to ear smile to your face in the early days of spring.
There are many more types of bulbs to plant than you might be aware of. Sure, most people know about tulips but what about hyacinths, star of holland, daffodils, bluebells and so much more. There are so many types that yield so many colours and blooms that the possibilities are just about endless!
Some considerations you need to keep in mind are simply the location you plan on planting. The light, moisture level of the soil etc. are good factors to consider when choosing the bulbs you want to plant.
Make sure you dig a big enough hole for your chosen bulb and place the bulb root down at the right depth the specific type. Cover it with soil and have them spaced appropriately to allow for each bulb to burst out when the warm springtime sun wakens them. Water is always helpful and so is nitrogen if your soil is lacking a bit in nutrients. Once your done, all you really have to do is sit back and get through winter knowing that early spring your family, friends and neighbours will look at your gardens with great admiration and all it took is an hour or two of light gardening.
If you want to know more or are wondering what might be the best types of bulbs for your space, give me a call or send me a note and I can help you plan to maximize the burst of spring in just the way that will bring a smile to your face!
That’s it for now! Stay tuned, it is also time for Fall mums etc.
